Northern Lakes Walleye Club

June 2015 Newsletter

Welcome back club members for another exciting year.  Our season opener was on Walloon Lake and we had a good showing with 23 teams, great weather, and excellent fishing.  Tim from Maple Bay was on the water debuting Lund’s 2015 Flagship walleye machine the 219 Pro V GL with a 300 Mercury Verado.   New NLWC members Kevin and Michelle Kovach took top honors with the largest basket along with winning the big fish pot.  Not bad for a first time on Walloon Lake.  Here are the top finalists:

1st  place:  Kevin and Michelle Kovach                   5 fish   10.55 pounds

2nd place:  Anthony Taylor and Doug Blaskowski   5 fish   10.05 pounds

3rd place:  Mark Jacobs and Todd Schryer               5 fish     9.18 pounds

4th place:  Dustin Saker and Jeff Sydow                   5 fish     7.87 pounds

5th place:  Pat Keiser and John McDonald               4 fish     7.36 pounds

6th place:  Don Schlappi Sr and Donnie Schlappi    5 fish     7.26 pounds

Big Fish:  Kevin and Michelle Kovach          4.01 pounds

A non club event was held on Lake Charlevoix on June 7th and launched out of Dutchman’s Bay.  Congratulations to Rick Warner who won with the largest basket bringing in three fishtipping in at just over 9 pounds.  Second place and big fish (5 lbs.) went to the team of Anthony Taylor and Doug Blaskowski.

Our next tournament is SATURDAY, June 20th on Saginaw Bay launching out of Eagle River Marina (www.eaglebaymarina.com) at 7:00 am.  Teams must be prequalified to fish this event by either fishing the Walloon Lake Tournament or have membership dues paid in full by May 17, 2015.   Due to the abundance of walleye in the Saginaw Bay system, teams will have the option to keep up to their two man limit of fish.  Please bring only 5 fish to the weigh in.  One additional point will be awarded for each fish brought to the scales alive.  Teams may have the option to release their catch after the weigh in ceremony if they so choose.  There is a $10.00 per boat launch fee.   Because this is a Great Lakes body of water, be sure to comply with all Coast Guard regulations concerning safety equipment.  The make up date for this tournament is the following day.  Should the tournament be cancelled both days, our make up date will be on Burt Lake on July 12, 2015.
