      March 2013 Newsletter

I don’t know about all of you, but as I put away my ice fishing gear for the season, the boat in the garage is looking better each day.  Spring can come anytime now…

The 5th Annual Burt Lake Ice Fishing Tournament on March 2, 2013 was a great success with over 200 anglers.  We would like to thank our sponsors for their generosity in helping us with this tournament: Maple Bay Marine, Pat and Gary’s Party Store, Carquest (I.R., Onaway, Cheboygan), Huron Distributors/Budweiser, Johnson Outdoors, and Nu-Way Stove.  This year we added several raffles, which added to the excitement and participation.  The MSU Inland Waterway Research crew was on hand taking stomach samples and discussed findings regarding forage and feeding habits of walleyes in the chain.

The 2013 Spring Meeting will be held April 10th at Maple Bay Marine at 6:30 pm. 

We will be serving refreshments and will discuss several topics for the upcoming season including a new tournament fee and payout schedule, launch site information, voting for 2014 tournament locations, and updates on our Walleye Federation/Cabelas NTC affiliation.  There are some exciting new opportunities in store for the 2013 season that the Board will be rolling out this year, some come out and join us!

Please take this opportunity to reach out to a potential new member you think might be interested.  Bring them to the meeting with you.  I know all of you are great at catching fish, but try reeling in some new members to help sustain and improve the future of our club.  Also, please help us get the word out to other club members of our spring meeting that may miss this newsletter.
