Congratulations to all of our friends who had a great August representing our club!

The NLWC board is in the final stages of becoming an affiliated club with both Cabelas NTC and The Walleye Federation for the 2013 season.  This will provide our club with insurance coverage and eligibility to send selected teams to Cabelas National Team Championship Tournaments next year.

We have board member positions that will be up for nomination for the 2013 season that we will vote on during our October banquet.  Many of our board members have served faithfully for multiple terms and it’s time for some new blood.  Please, if you have any interest we would really appreciate your support and future leadership.  Feel free to contact me or another board member at anytime.

Seth Herbst and other members of the MSU research crew again will be on hand at the end of our next two tournaments on the Inland Waterway to collect data and take stomach samples.  Please assist them as best you can.  It’s pretty cool to watch all the fish in the swimming pool and see the process so this is a great time to invite family and friends to our weigh-ins.  If you have frozen stomach samples or fishing diaries to submit these will also be convenient opportunities.  More information on the Inland Waterway and Jaw Tagging Survey is available on our website.

Mullett Lake Tournament, September 15

Our next tournament is at Mullett Lake on September 15th launching out of Hobart’s at 7:00 am.  Please note that this has only one ramp, so please plan on arriving early so that we can have our take-off on time.  The launch is located on the northwest corner of the lake near Dodge Point.  From Highway 27 just north of the bowling alley, take Mullett Lake Road south .8 miles south to the DNR public access.  Please note that on Mullett Lake there is a 3 fish limit per angler.  There will still be a 5 fish limit for the weigh-in, however, understand that if you are fishing solo without a partner you will only be allowed to bring in 3 walleye.  This tournament is for Mullett Lake ONLY and the rivers are off-limits.  Feel free to contact me at (231) 330-0407 if you have any questions.

Once again this season we have had a very limited fish kill at our tournaments and will most likely need donations of fish for our fish fry at the banquet in October.  Please contact a board member if you have some fillets you can spare.

The NLWC will again contribute this year to the Mullett Area Preservation Society (MAPS) in their walleye stocking efforts on Mullett Lake.

It’s hard to believe that the summer is already over and we are turning the corner on the end of our tournament season.  Thanks to all of you who have been with us this year!
