July/August 2012 Newsletter

Thanks to all members who competed in the Big Manistique tournament on June 16, 2012.   We had 17 teams competing with a great catch of 47 fish brought in.

1st place:  Dustin Saker & Pat Keiser             5 fish, 8.62 lbs

2nd place: Don Sr. & Don Jr. Schlappi           5 fish, 7.54 lbs

3rd place:  Craig Wallace & Chris Schroder   5 fish, 7.28 lbs

4th place:  Mike and Matt Landon                  5 fish, 6.55 lbs

5th place:  Mike Saker & Jim Parrott             5 fish, 6.41 lbs

Biggest Walleye:  Dustin Saker & Pat Keiser    3.57 lbs

Our next club event is a trip to the Saint Marie’s River System on August 18, 2012 launching out of Anne Osborn in Sault Ste. Marie at our normal start time at 7:00 am.  Club members should plan on getting to the launch ramp by 6:00 am or shortly after to help ensure an orderly and timely takeoff.  Be prepared for additional traffic due to anglers pre-fishing for the MWC.  The FOP walleye tournament is scheduled for August 11 and will not conflict this year with ours.

If you haven’t already, consider making motel or campground reservations ASAP. A couple of locations club members have stayed in the past are:

Aune Osborn Campground  (906) 632-3268

Budget Host/Crestview Inn   (906) 635-5213

Our tournament is open to all waters, but you must possess a Canadian fishing license if you intend on fishing Canadian waters.  In addition, there have been some changes involving customs and crossing into Canadian waters.  If you stop in Canadian waters or merely cross the boundary line, you are required to call customs and get clearance for everyone on your boat.  The number is 888 226-7277.  You will need to report the names, date of birth, citizenship, boat numbers, and have a passport or enhanced driver’s license for everyone on your vessel.  If you do not have a passport or e license, you will need to have a photo ID and birth certificate.  Once you call customs, they will provide you with a reference number.
