Northern Lakes Walleye Club

February 2012 Newsletter

The NLWC will also host our 4th annual Ice Fishing Tournament on Burt Lake on March 3, 2012 from 7:00am – 3:00pm.  Registration forms are available at Maple Bay Marine and Pat and Gary’s Party Store.  If anyone from the club would like to help volunteer for this event, please contact a board member.   You can also register the day of the event before 9:00 am.  We will have both adult and youth categories, so come on out and enjoy a great day on the ice.  Proceeds from this event will help support our club and fish stocking of our area lakes.

Maple Bay Marine will host its 7th Annual In-house Boat Show on March 9 & 10.  This year will feature seminars by pro fisherman Mark Martin and Dave Rose.  There will be a fish fry from 4-7 pm on Friday evening.  For more information check out:

The MSU field crew for the Inland Waterway Walleye Survey is looking for housing to rent for the summer to conduct their research.  Please contact me if you can recommend some affordable lodging in the area that would be close to the lakes.

Our spring meeting will be held early this year on April 18, at 6:30 pm at Maple Bay Marine.

Don’t forget that walleye and pike season closes and permanent shanties must be off the ice on March 15, and your fishing license and ORV registration expire on March 31.

It’s been a nice mild winter so far…warm enough to save on some heating costs but cool enough to still offer up some great ice fishing.  We are indeed blessed to live here in Northern Michigan.   See you on the ice!
