 I just received an update from Patrick Vandaele, DNR Fisheries Technician Supervisor and the survey is going well and the walleye run is at its peak.  They could use a few volunteers and if you are interested please contact Patrick at his office at 989 732-3541 extension 5470 or by email at vandaelep@michigan.gov.  Currently there is survey activity taking place throughout the Waterway and this is your chance to take some photos and see the details of the work that is being conducted.  Conducting fish surveys seems like a lot of fun until one encounters the heavy lifting and handling of many large fish each day and often under cold and windy conditions.
