                            June 2011 Newsletter

Our first event on May 14, 2011 on Saginaw Bay was cancelled due to high Northeast winds.

The board determined that the bay would be too hazardous to allow members to fish.  The forecast for Sunday was even worse.  At 6:35 am a vote was conducted to determine whether to restrict fishing to the river or to cancel the tournament entirely.  Club members present at that time voted unanimously to cancel the event entirely.

Thanks to all club members who traveled to participate in this tournament.  All eighteen teams that were present will receive show up points.  Door prizes for the event will be drawn at our end of the year banquet for just those teams in attendance at the DNR launch.

Our next tournament will held on June 4, 2011 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on Lake Charlevoix.  We will be launching out of Ironton.  Again we will request that teams arrive early enough to get registered and through the narrows to the take off locations.

Take off locations will be just past both ends of the narrows no wake zones.

Here are some other points regarding the tournament:

Monitor channel 68.  There are no boundaries for this event.  All of Lake Charlevoix as well as Round Lake and Lake Michigan are open to competition.  Our official flag drop at 7:00 am will be again be conducted at the south arm entrance, however, teams choosing to launch to the north arm will stage just past the no wake buoy around from the barges at Ironton and await the countdown on channel 68.

Directions:

From the north:  Take US 31 through Charlevoix.  Turn left on M-66 towards Ironton.  Turn left on 5th Street and the boat launch is on the right.
