The Fraternal Order of Police will be holding their annual tournament on August 20th as well. Their hours are the same as ours. This tournament usually has between 30 and 40 boats. Guys will probably be pre fishing for the Masters as well. Gonna be a busy launch so be prepared. On a positive note have been catching quite a few fish. Lots of throw backs but limits in the 15 to 19 inch range. Have fished from the Sault to Raber and just have not figured out the big guys.

I spoke with Detective Whitney in charge of the FOP tournament today. They are expecting about 50 boats. He said they may have two flights for their group, one at 7:00 am and one at 7:30 am. When we scheduled our tournament calendar back in October, we did all we could to avoid the FOP tournament. They needed to move their tournament a couple of weeks back this year due to scheduling conflicts for the hall for their steak dinner, which unfortunately fell on our same date.
Both Detective Whitney and I agreed that both tournament groups will work together to make things go as smoothly as possible. Neither of us have plans to change our scheduled date.
There is the possibility of our group launching earlier or later than 7:00 am. That would need to be board decision and some communication efforts, but I am open to any suggestions.
Thanks Yote' for mentioning it and I will include some info. in the upcoming August newsletter.
Good luck Mark and Todd in the MWC tournie, make us proud!

It's a good group of guys that fish the FOP. Steve and I fished it last year and did well. There is another launch down the road about two miles that would work as well. Just an idea. Not opposed to 8 to 4 or 6-2.

We've decided to move the tourney forward half an hour. Our tournament hours will be 6:30 am to 2:30 pm. This should help limit the congestion at the launch and allow our group to get a little jump start on the competitiors from the FOP tourney. Once our weigh in is concluded, those who wish can then check out the FOP weigh in that follows.
More details to come in the upcoming newsletter.
With the FOP tourney going on and the MWC group likely prefishing, I would encourage everyone to make reservations asap because motels may be quickly filling up.

Just a reminder, make sure all your safety equipment is in order. The Coast Guard is on the rampage. They are boarding everyone and I have heard of several complaints. They have damaged boats by not using bumpers and will pretty much tear your boat apart. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BUCKET AND RAGS ON BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the most common violation and fines are close to $500. Just wanted to make everyone aware.

I guess the bucket would be for a bailing bucket and the rags would be to plug any holes in the boat??? I called the Coast Guard out of the Soo and asked them about this. They stated that most likely, the bucket and rags was a recommendation that someone was probably given, but if they were fined it was for other reasons.
In addition, to take some of the heat off the rest of us, I told them to be on the look out for a red Lund with gray engines with "Big Daddy" on the side.
Seriously though, be sure to check all your safety equipment and make sure you have everything needed to be on Great Lakes waters.

I think the bucket and rag is for a "oil containment system". And as far as them looking for me, well, they would have to catch me. Just got the boat tuned up at Maple Bay Marina and she is running fast.

Big Daddy sighting Sunday at 1:30 p.m. downtown Kincheloe. I saw him from the joint and was jealous that he was fishing and I was babysitting Michigan's finest.
